Carbon Window Tint
in Van Nuys, CA

The smart entry point into professional window tinting. Real heat rejection, a clean matte finish that never fades, and 99% UV protection — at a price point that makes the upgrade an easy decision.

THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR MOST DRIVERS

The Benefits of Carbon Window Tint

When most people picture window tint, they're picturing carbon film. It's the most widely installed professional film category in the automotive world — for good reason. Carbon delivers meaningful, real-world performance over no tint or older dyed films, at a price point that's accessible without feeling like a compromise.

01

Meaningful Heat Rejection

Carbon film blocks 30–40% of infrared heat — a significant improvement over unprotected glass and a major upgrade over older dyed films that absorb heat rather than reject it. On a hot Valley afternoon, that translates to a 5°F–10°F drop in cabin temperature. Your A/C doesn't have to work as hard, and long summer commutes become noticeably more bearable.

02

99% UV Protection

Every carbon film we install blocks 99% of UVA and UVB rays — the same protection you get from our ceramic tier. UV rays fade leather seats, crack dashboards, and cause cumulative skin damage on long drives. Carbon tint eliminates that exposure at every shade level — protecting your interior and your passengers on every commute.

03

The Matte Finish That Stays Matte

Carbon film gets its name from the carbon particles embedded in the film — and those particles give it its signature deep, rich matte appearance. Unlike older dyed films that fade to an ugly purple or brownish hue, carbon film is color-stable. The matte charcoal you see on day one is what you'll see five and ten years later.

04

Zero Signal Interference

Carbon film is non-metallic, so it causes zero interference with GPS, cellular signals, toll transponders, or any other electronic system in your vehicle. A direct advantage over metalized films that can degrade navigation accuracy and cell reception. Everything in your car works exactly as before — just cooler and more private.

05

Privacy & Security

Carbon tint's rich, dark matte appearance provides genuine privacy on rear windows and back glass. At 5% or 10% VLT, it's virtually impossible to see inside your vehicle from the outside — valuables stay hidden and smash-and-grab theft becomes far less appealing. The film also holds shattered glass together in an accident.

06

Glare Reduction

Afternoon glare driving west on Ventura Boulevard, morning sun on the 118 — carbon tint cuts that significantly. By reducing visible light transmission according to your chosen shade, carbon film eases eye strain on every drive, improves visibility in high-glare conditions, and makes every commute noticeably more comfortable.

THE QUESTION WE GET MOST OFTEN

Carbon vs. Ceramic

This is the question we get most often at our Van Nuys shop. Here's the honest answer.

Choose Carbon if

  • You want a genuine performance upgrade at an accessible price point
  • You drive a standard passenger vehicle without specific EV electronics concerns
  • Heat rejection is a priority but not your primary obsession
  • You're planning to sell the vehicle within a few years

UNDERSTANDING VLT

Carbon Tint Shade Guide

VLT (Visible Light Transmission) is the percentage of light the film allows through the glass. Carbon film is available at every shade — and your UV and color-stability performance is identical at every VLT. You're choosing privacy and aesthetic.

WHAT VAN NUYS DRIVERS NEED TO KNOW — LA COUNTY

California Law & Carbon Tint

Carbon tint doesn't change California's tinting rules — but knowing the rules helps you get the most out of your installation.

Windshield

Legal Limit
Non-reflective tint on the top 4 inches only (AS-1 line)
Our Recommendation
70% Carbon — UV protection and glare reduction across the top of your windshield within the legal zone

Front Side Windows

Legal Limit
Must allow more than 70% VLT
Our Recommendation
70% Carbon — legal compliance with 99% UV protection and meaningful glare reduction. For maximum heat rejection within the law, consider upgrading the fronts to 70% Nano-Ceramic.

Rear Side Windows

Legal Limit
Any darkness permitted
Our Recommendation
5%, 10%, or 20% Carbon — maximum privacy and the matte look carbon is known for

Back Windshield

Legal Limit
Any darkness permitted (vehicle must have dual side mirrors)
Our Recommendation
5%, 10%, or 20% Carbon — all modern vehicles with dual mirrors qualify

The 70% Rule for Front Windows

California requires front side windows to allow at least 70% of light through. A 70% carbon film on the fronts is fully legal and still delivers 99% UV protection and meaningful glare reduction. For maximum heat rejection within the legal limit, ask us about a hybrid build — ceramic on the fronts, carbon on the rear.

Rear Window Freedom

Total freedom on the back half of your vehicle. Any VLT is legal as long as your vehicle has dual side-view mirrors — which applies to virtually every modern car on the road.

No Metallic or Color Tints

Carbon film is non-metallic and available only in charcoal, smoke, and graphite — fully compliant with California's prohibition on mirror-finish and colored tints.

Medical Exemptions

Drivers with documented conditions including lupus, photosensitivity, or skin cancer risk may qualify for a medical exemption allowing darker front-window tint. Keep a signed physician letter in your glovebox at all times if driving under an exemption.

HOW WE INSTALL CARBON TINT

The Tint & Wraps Customs Process

A carbon film installation is only as good as the preparation behind it. Our four-stage process ensures every carbon tint job we deliver meets the same standard as our ceramic and PPF work.

01

Triple-Stage Glass Decontamination

Before any film touches your vehicle, we deep-clean every glass surface — removing dust, road grime, oils, and contaminants from both interior and exterior surfaces, including the gaskets and seals where debris hides. Contamination under the film is the number one cause of bubbles, poor adhesion, and premature failure. We eliminate every variable before we start.

02

Precision Digital Plotter Cutting

We do not cut film on your vehicle with a razor blade. Our digital plotter uses the exact factory specifications for your year, make, and model to cut every piece with 100% dimensional accuracy. Clean edges, precise fits, zero risk of paint or trim damage from in-situ cutting.

03

Climate-Controlled Installation Bay

Your vehicle is brought into our enclosed, dust-free facility at 7812 Gloria Ave. A single airborne particle trapped under a carbon film panel creates a permanent inclusion. Working in a climate-controlled environment eliminates the wind, pollen, and debris that plague mobile tinting services and strip-mall shops with open bays.

04

Heat-Set & Final Inspection

Once applied, each panel is heat-set to lock the adhesive to the glass — particularly around curved edges and dot matrix areas where lifting is most common. Our inspection checks every panel for bubbles, creases, edge alignment, and any inclusion before your car leaves the bay. If it doesn't meet our standard, it gets redone.

EV SPECIALISTS

Carbon Tint for Tesla & EVs

Carbon film is a solid option for Tesla and EV owners — with one important consideration.

Signal Compatibility

Carbon film is non-metallic and causes zero interference with GPS, cellular, Autopilot sensors, toll transponders, or any other signal-dependent system. On this front, carbon and ceramic perform identically — both are fully safe for EVs.

The Heat Rejection Consideration

Where carbon and ceramic diverge for EV owners is heat performance. Carbon blocks 30–40% of infrared heat. Our Nano-Ceramic blocks 90–98%. For Tesla drivers where cabin heat directly impacts battery draw and daily range — particularly in Van Nuys summers — that gap is meaningful.

Our Recommendation for EV Owners

If budget is a factor, carbon tint is a worthwhile upgrade for your Tesla or EV. If you're keeping the vehicle long-term, we recommend ceramic — or a hybrid approach with ceramic on the most heat-exposed glass and carbon on the rest. Call us and we'll find the right configuration.

Electronics Protection During Install

Regardless of film type, every EV installation at our shop uses specialized moisture-absorbing soak ropes tucked into the dash and door panels, and low-moisture application techniques designed to protect Autopilot sensors, interior computers, and door electronics throughout the process.

BACKED FOR LIFE

Carbon Tint — Warranty & Protection

Manufacturer's Lifetime Warranty

Every carbon film we install is backed by a manufacturer's lifetime warranty tied to your vehicle's VIN. As authorized installers of 3M and LLumar, that warranty is corporate — not just a shop promise that disappears if we close.

  • No bubbling or peeling — guaranteed against adhesive failure and delamination
  • Color stability — carbon film never fades, never turns purple, never hazes
  • Nationwide coverage — honored by any authorized 3M or LLumar dealer across the US

Our Craftsmanship Guarantee

The manufacturer covers the film. We cover the work. Any debris inclusion, edge lifting, crease, or installation imperfection — bring it back. We redo the panel, no charge, no argument, no questions asked.

PROTECTING YOUR NEW FILM

Carbon Tint Aftercare

After your installation, the film's adhesive needs time to fully bond to the glass. Follow these guidelines to protect your investment.

The 3–5 Day Curing Period

  • Keep all windows rolled up for at least 3–5 days. Rolling them down early catches the film edge on the door seal and causes peeling.
  • Park in direct sunlight when possible — heat accelerates the evaporation of mounting solution through the film.
  • Avoid all car washes for the first 5 days, especially automatic brush washes that force moisture into the film edges.

Haze and Water Pockets — What's Normal

  • It is entirely normal to see milky patches or small water pockets immediately after a carbon film installation.
  • The haze is residual mounting solution evaporating through the film. The small bubbles are water pockets — not air — and they disappear on their own within 1–3 weeks.
  • Do not press, poke, or squeegee them.
  • If anything hasn't cleared after 3 weeks, call us at (747) 295-7683.

Cleaning Carbon Tinted Windows

  • Never use ammonia-based cleaners. Products like original Windex contain ammonia that degrades carbon film's adhesive layer over time.
  • Use only ammonia-free products: Sprayway, Invisible Glass, or a mix of mild dish soap and distilled water.
  • Microfiber towels only. Paper towels, newspapers, and abrasive materials scratch the film's top coat and dull the appearance over time.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does carbon window tint cost in Van Nuys?+

Carbon tint is our most accessible professional film tier. Pricing varies based on your vehicle size and the number of windows being tinted. Call us at (747) 295-7683 or submit a quote request online — we'll give you an exact number for your specific vehicle with no guesswork and no surprises.

How long does carbon tint last?+

With proper aftercare, professional carbon film routinely lasts 7–10 years or more. The carbon particle structure is color-stable and does not react to UV exposure or heat cycling the way older dyed films do. Combined with our manufacturer's lifetime warranty, your installation is protected from day one.

Is carbon tint better than the tint that came on my car from the factory?+

Factory "tint" on most vehicles is actually tinted glass — not film — and it typically provides minimal UV and heat protection compared to aftermarket film. Professional carbon film delivers 99% UV blocking and 30–40% infrared heat rejection that factory glass simply cannot match. It's a meaningful upgrade over what came standard.

Will carbon tint interfere with my GPS or phone signal?+

No. Carbon film is non-metallic and causes zero interference with any electronic signal. GPS, cellular, Bluetooth, toll transponders, radar detectors — everything works exactly as it did before your installation.

Can I get carbon tint on just some windows?+

Absolutely. Many customers choose rear windows only, or all windows except the front two to stay within California's 70% VLT requirement. Some choose a hybrid approach — carbon on the rear, ceramic on the front. We'll work with whatever configuration makes sense for your vehicle, your priorities, and your budget.

What happens if my carbon tint starts to bubble or peel?+

Bring it back. Our manufacturer's lifetime warranty covers adhesive failure and delamination. Our craftsmanship guarantee covers any installation imperfection. If something goes wrong with the film or our work, we fix it — no charge, no argument.

How does carbon tint compare to ceramic tint in the Van Nuys heat?+

Carbon blocks 30–40% of infrared heat. Ceramic blocks 90–98%. Both deliver 99% UV protection. In a Van Nuys summer, carbon tint makes a real, noticeable difference in cabin temperature. Ceramic makes a dramatic one. If maximum heat rejection is your primary goal, ceramic is the stronger choice. If you want real performance at an accessible price point, carbon delivers it.

Can carbon tint be removed or upgraded later?+

Yes to both. Carbon tint can be professionally removed without damaging your glass, and upgraded to ceramic at any point. Many customers start with carbon and upgrade when they're ready for maximum performance. We offer full removal as a standalone service — see our window tint removal page for details.

Is carbon tint a good choice for a lease vehicle?+

Yes. Carbon tint can be professionally removed at the end of your lease term without leaving adhesive residue or damaging the glass — as long as it's removed by a professional. If you're leasing and plan to return the vehicle, let us know when you book and we'll advise on the best approach for your specific situation.

How soon can I wash my car after getting carbon tint?+

Wait a minimum of 5 days before any car wash. Automatic brush washes should be avoided for at least 5–7 days as the brush action and forced water can get into film edges during the curing period. After the curing window, hand washing and touchless washes are both fine — just use an ammonia-free soap.
