The Benefits of Vinyl Wraps
The color your vehicle came in was chosen by a committee optimizing for mass-market appeal. A professional vinyl wrap gives you access to hundreds of exclusive finishes that have never existed in a factory paint booth, at a fraction of the cost of a custom paint job, with none of the permanence.
Vinyl Wrap vs. Custom Paint — What Van Nuys Drivers Need to Know
Time — From Weeks to Days
A high-quality multi-stage paint job is intensive — sanding, priming, multiple base coats, clear coating, and final polishing. Your vehicle is out of commission for three to six weeks minimum.
Wrapping is a dry process. No sanding, no primer, no drying time. Most full transformations are completed in three to five business days.
Maintenance — Effortless vs. Demanding
Custom paint requires clay bar treatments, regular polishing, and high-end wax to prevent oxidation and swirl marks. Neglect it and the finish deteriorates visibly.
Vinyl is a non-porous polymer. Dirt and road grime release easily with a simple pH-neutral hand wash. No waxing required.
Resale Value — Protection vs. Depreciation
A non-factory paint color on a modern vehicle typically reduces resale value. Buyers are wary of what might be hiding under a respray.
A wrap preserves the factory paint underneath. Remove the wrap when you sell to reveal a factory finish that commands a higher asking price.
Cost — The Real Numbers
$8,000–$15,000 for a show-quality multi-stage paint job. Non-reversible. Permanently alters the vehicle.
Significantly less for a professional full vehicle wrap. Fully reversible. Factory paint protected throughout.
Vinyl Wrap Finishes Available in Van Nuys
Every finish below is available across hundreds of color options. The finish you choose determines how your vehicle interacts with light — and how it reads from the street, the parking lot, and the showroom.
Full Wrap, Partial Wrap, or Accent — Coverage Options
A vinyl wrap doesn't have to be all or nothing. We offer three levels of coverage depending on your goals, your vehicle, and your budget.
Premium Vinyl Films We Install
Every film we use is cast vinyl — not calendered. Cast vinyl is manufactured by pouring liquid vinyl onto a casting sheet, producing a thinner, more dimensionally stable film that conforms to complex automotive curves without shrinking or distorting over time.
The industry benchmark for professional wrap film. The 3M 2080 Series is known for exceptional conformability to complex curves and integrated air-release technology that eliminates bubbles during installation. Available across an extensive range of gloss, matte, satin, metallic, and specialty finishes.
The Supreme Wrapping Film series is widely regarded for its smooth finish quality, vibrant and accurate color reproduction, and exceptional ease of installation on tight curves. Avery's color library includes some of the most sought-after specialty finishes — particularly satin and color-shift.
Inozetek produces some of the highest-gloss vinyl films available — engineered to replicate the deep, wet look of factory multi-stage paint at the closest possible fidelity. Popular with luxury and exotic vehicle owners where gloss depth and color accuracy are non-negotiable.
KPMF specializes in unique color options and specialty finishes — particularly in the iridescent, color-shifting, and specialty metallic categories. For builds where a standard palette isn't enough and the film itself needs to be a conversation starter, KPMF is where we look first.
The Tint & Wraps Customs Vinyl Wrap Process
A vinyl wrap installation is only as good as the preparation and technique behind it. At our Van Nuys shop, every wrap follows a four-stage process that eliminates the variables responsible for bubbling, lifting, seams, and premature failure.
Surgical-Grade Disassembly
Before any vinyl touches your vehicle, we systematically remove door handles, side mirrors, emblems, trim pieces, and any component that sits proud of the body panels. By removing these components, we tuck the vinyl deep into the recesses of every panel — into door jambs, around mirror housings, behind trim lines.
Multi-Stage Surface Decontamination
The smallest particle of contamination creates a bubble that cannot be fixed without reapplying the entire panel. Three stages: chemical strip removes waxes and road oils, clay bar pulls embedded contaminants out of the clear coat, and an alcohol prep ensures the adhesive bonds directly to bare clean clear coat.
3M Knifeless Tape Technology
The most common fear vehicle owners have about wrapping is a blade touching their paint. We use 3M Knifeless Tape — a high-strength filament tape laid along your vehicle's body lines before vinyl application. Once positioned, we pull the filament through the film from the underside — creating a perfectly straight cut without a metal blade ever coming near your factory paint.
Infrared Post-Heating
Vinyl has molecular memory — it naturally wants to return to its original flat shape. We use infrared heaters to bring every panel to the film's break point — typically between 180°F and 200°F after installation. At this temperature, the vinyl's molecular memory is permanently eliminated. The film locks into the shape of your vehicle's curves and stays there regardless of Valley heat.
How to Care for Your Vinyl Wrap
Vinyl wraps are low-maintenance by design — but the right care practices dramatically extend their lifespan and keep your finish looking sharp for years.
The First Seven Days
- Avoid all car washes for the first seven days after installation
- Do not apply wax, sealant, or detailing spray to the wrap surface
- Avoid extended direct sunlight while the adhesive fully cures
- Minor edge lifting in the first 24–48 hours is normal — contact us if it persists
Washing Your Wrapped Vehicle
- Hand washing is preferred — pH-neutral shampoo and a clean microfiber mitt
- Touchless automatic car washes are acceptable after the first seven days
- Never use brush-style automatic car washes — they lift wrap edges
- Never aim a high-pressure washer directly at film edges or panel seams
- Wash in shade — washing a hot wrap in direct sun causes water spotting
Matte and Satin Finish Care
- Never apply traditional wax or gloss-enhancing products to matte or satin vinyl
- Use only matte-safe detailing sprays formulated for vinyl wraps
- Avoid fuel spills and tire dressing overspray on matte panels
- Microfiber towels only — paper towels and abrasive materials scratch the film
What to Avoid on All Finish Types
- Gasoline or solvent contact — clean immediately with a mild cleaner
- Bird droppings, tree sap, and bug splatter — clean promptly
- Parking under trees that produce heavy sap regularly
- Abrasive polishes, cutting compounds, or alcohol-heavy products
LONG-TERM CARE: An annual inspection of your wrap — checking edges, high-wear areas like door handles and rocker panels, and any panel where the vinyl may have experienced stress — helps catch minor issues before they become major ones. Individual panels can be replaced without disturbing adjacent coverage. We offer wrap maintenance and panel replacement services at our Van Nuys shop.
